    Edmond Community and Cultural Resource Guide

Edmond has many places of historic and cultural interest for visitors and residents alike. University Village is convenient to all listed resources, and we are pleased to include this guide as a community service. Be sure to call ahead and confirm hours of operation and program schedules.

Edmond Train Depot

The Edmond Historical Society Museum, located at 431 South Boulevard, is housed in an historic armory. The permanent exhibits are arranged in chronological order from the early days when Edmond was a coal and water stop for the Santa Fe Railroad, through the Run of 1889, the building years in the early 1900's, up through the present. Oklahoma Shakespeare in The Parka SIP of Oklahoma (link) is performed by Edmond's own Professional Classics Theatre Company. The outdoor Theatre Company has been performing in E. C. Hafer Park, at 9th and Bryant, since 1985. If you like the classics, you'll love their work. Call 340-1222 for information. Performances are during summer months for obvious reasons.

On a smaller scale, but none less grand, is the Theatre A La Carte. Performances are conducted during summer months in Liberty Park. Previous performances have included mystery, musicals, classics and comedies. A good time is enjoyed by all. Liberty Park is east of Boulevard on 1st Street in Edmond. Call 359-2200 for information.

The Central Museum of Art & Design is located on the University of Central Oklahoma campus at 100 North University Drive and is the oldest staffed museum facility in both the Edmond and campus communities. Exhibits have included photographs, sculptures, paintings and ceramics. Traveling displays and educational programs are also offered. And let's not forget our Edmond Public Library, the busiest library in the Metropolitan Library System. The renovated library includes the Fred P. Snyder Quiet Reading Room, a special children's area, expanded meeting room space and much more. Library hours are posted online or call 341-9282. The library is at 10 South Boulevard.


Edmond Sports and Recreation Resource Guide

Pelican Bay Aquatic Center at 1034 S. Bryant opened in June, 2002. One body of water with state-of-the-art amenities serves all ages and aquatic programs. A large outdoor recreation area is included with a water playground section that focuses on automated sprays and a participatory play area with easy access. Arcadia Lake features twenty six miles of shoreline for everyone who enjoys the outdoors for fishing, swimming, sailing, waterskiing, hiking, bikes, camping or picnics. Call 359-4570 or click here for information.

 

E.C. Hafer Park features winding footpath trails, jogging trails and play areas. Activities range from concerts and festivals to a wide variety of sporting events. 9th and Bryant in Edmond. Kickingbird Golf Club and Tennis Center features an 18-hole championship golf course, driving range and pro shop. The golf course and tennis center offer year-round enjoyment at 1500 and 1600 Danforth Road, less than a mile from University Village.
